Single Suggestion: The Future Kicks ~ Lose Control
Aces. Most of my posts about The Future Kicks seem to be focused around their blistering cover versions (I still listen to their version of Daft Punk more than I do the original, which - in my mind - means they've been at number one for four weeks now) and which of the quintet looks most fine this week (still Bri). But alongside all of that I've been a-hankering for some new music from them that showcases the potential I know they have. And hurrah - here they are with a scintillating new song called Lose Control. What it does (in the most brilliant and complimentary way) is make me feel quite old and boring. I even rebelled today and wore chinos & a t-shirt to work, inspired by the cast-off-your-shackles nature of the tune. IN YOUR FACE SHIRT AND TIE :P Anyway, the song is a puslating jam that has a throbbing bass, far more electro-synth than I anticipated (which to me opens up the band to all sorts of exciting possibilities) and a very addicitive semi-rapped style of verses (think LMFAO if they weren't so wank and you'll get the drift). What radiates through all of this is the enthusiasm & devil-may-care personalities of the boys - and this really makes the song come alive. By the time you get to the chorus (which in itself is a triumph - infernally catchy with enough refrains to make Eurovision jealous, some glorious falsetto and some rather good vocoder bits which work incredibly well in the concept of the song), you're already pogo-ing around like a big ol' ninny, letting the music & it's message consume while the boys do what they do best - providing you with a soundtrack that ensures you have a jolly good time. And of course the video accompanying this peek into their creativity is a giddy little hoot - they are having their usual hi-jinks around London and make far more efficient use of phone boxes than One Direction ever did (only fitting one person in on their album cover? Oh poor Niall!) So Future Kicks - proving once again that once their music is released, it's going to make the pop world a MUCH more interesting place.
