The Cover Up: FutureKicks ~ Get Lucky (Daft Punk ft Pharrell cover)

I do enjoy The FutureKicks and their tireless ability to whip out their own unique take on the latest chart sounds :) It can get a bit distracting trying to work out which Kicker looks the most fine in the latest vid (fact - last time it was Ben, this time it's definitely Bri :D), but ultimately their exuberance and vibrant performance ensures you concentrate on what they do best - spellbinding performances that demonstrate their awesomeness & cohesiveness as Britain's NextBigThing :) This time around they've taken on the massive number one single from Daft Punk featuring Pharrell ~ Get Lucky. By now everyone knows the funk drenched original with it's blistering guitar work and big singalong chorus, so what can the FutureKicks blokes bring to the table? Well, they seem to crank everything up to the nth degree, turning it from a tune you would dance to in your bedroom with a few friends and some strobe lights (this happened) to a sizzling rock-infused track that you can mosh away to in your garden like a loon on loon tablets. At loon camp. Amazing. The lead vocals exude a sexy swagger to them that injects the song with a little bit of an arrogant swagger - it works very well, is a bit alluring and when the other fellas join in on the harmonies you are pretty much listening to pop paradise. What I love about FutureKicks is their ability to ensure that each member of the band is as pivotal as the next - their arrangements of each score they play means that the instruments build a textured canvas that is as vital to the story of the song as the lyrics & vocals. On Get Lucky, their devil-may-care exhilaration is entirely infectious and gives the song it's own wicked personality. I may have played this more over the past few days than the actual Daft Punk version. Let's hope Pharrell gives it a listen because their ingenuity & musician skills deserve some serious recognition. Hurrah!
