New and Noteworthy: Jaxxon ~ Right Here

Every so often you will hear a new song from a new artist that stops you in your tracks. The whole world seems to fade away and you become immersed in the experience, awash in the beauty of the music cascading through the airwaves. Jaxxon is definitely one of those artists and Right Here (stream here) is one of those songs. Jaxxon is a new (to me anyway) young 18 year old whose soulful, nuanced, expressive voice belies her young years. This allows her to bring a depth and resonance to lyrics that reverberate with textured layers on each successive listen. Her twitter profile describes herself as a young girl with an old soul and that certainly is a big selling point of the delicious and very lovely indeed Right Here. Jaxxon eschews trends & musical fads to concentrate on a stunning, engaging vocal delivery alongside solid classic song structure that focuses on melody. In doing so she manages to produce a song that is both contemporary and timeless, an enduring song that will sound as elegant & mellifluous in 20 years time. The song begins with some gentle piano chords & an ever so slight shuffling beat that create the perfect framework for Jaxxon's beautiful voice. This builds into a genuinely sparkling chorus that adds muted horns, 60s girl group backing vocals and a shimmering summery vibe that is all too hard to resist. The uplifting nature of the lyrics make you feel like the sun is in the sky regardless of what the whether is doing outside. It's like your daily aural dose of Vitamin D! Utterly magnificent - I'm pretty sure I've stumbled across something rather special. I can't wait to hear more from this talented young lady. Blissful.

(PS, I *think* the song is co-written by Jaxxon with the ridiculously good looking brothers Tom and Simon Mitchell, who are better known as Lola Run. They are very adept at making rather good music and it think it was them who about a year ago put out a youtube cover of Call Me Maybe that I was rather smitten with. They also have their own music - including the very excellent indeed Start Again. Hurrah!)
