I quite like Eleven Past One and I'll tell you for why - they have the pop hooks of boy bands like One Direction & The Wanted, the energy of acts like The Summer Set, the fun of groups like No Doubt and put it all together in their own, vibrant package that just compels you to have a jolly good time. Take their current single, Tonight's The Night. It's an exhilarating pop romp that acts as a rallying call to arms for seizing the moment; lifting you to euphoric highs with it's ridonkulously massive chorus and engaging verses. The group is seamlessly cohesive together with each performer bringing their best individually that all adds to the kinetic, frantic, thrusting nature of the tune. As a debut single it makes a definitive statement about the band - they are clearly having an amazing time doing what they are doing & want the audience to be part of that (something that their live performances will attest to). They have a clear understanding of what it takes to put together a magnificently catchy pop song yet it's one that showcases their talents as a performing band to. Multi-faceted will get this group far - and if everything coming from them is as much of a hoot as their video (above), I'm SO on board for the ride. Here are some of my favourite moments...
- 01 ~ Only certain people are being allowed backstage (mostly long legged ladeez). This shows that the group are selective or at the very least employ minders who are...
- 02 ~ Oh my days. Lead singer Daniel has the most flawless skin known to mankind. He's like a living mannequin :) I like the brazen nature of his red blazer and am VERY jealous of that out-of-this-world quiff :D
- 03 ~ Pause at 11s! Bloody hell! What's Leona Lewis doing backstage? (Not really, but I do love a good lookeylikey). Drummer Steve seems as surprised to see her as the rest of us. I hope she does Bleeding Love...
- 04 ~ There is lots of hugging and flirting going on backstage. However, the most important thing to Daniel is putting his gold chain on. it's all in the finer details, my friends :)
- 05 ~ Ooo, he quite literally hop skips and jumps onto the stage where - as luck would have it seeing as this is a video for Tonight's The Night - the whole band is performing Tonight's The Night! WHAT ARE THE ODDS?! :D
- 06 ~ Dance Routines! Well almost! I love a good dance routine I do. There's a couple almost-routines happening most notably at the end of the first chorus where Daniel is all shimmy shimmy shoulders shoulders. Yes it sounds crap written down, but when you've let the music consume you it will probably work much better...
- 07 ~ Bravery! Some girl is holding a dart board while the band play. No one gets a treble twenty but someone loses an eye :P Of course not, but only try this at home with those crappy velcro darts that seem a good idea at the time but are basically rubbish :D
- 08 ~ Waistcoats! I do love a good waistcoat I do. Americans call them vests. I'm not sure about Canadians - perhaps someone could enlighten me?! Anyway, Steve has one on over some boozy advertising tee, while Daniel is rocking one paired with a crisp white shirt. He sure is pretty...;)
- 09 ~ Ticker Tape! Have we learnt nothing from the X Factor/American Idol type finales? Everyone knows by now that ticker tape gets in your mouth while you are trying to grasp onto that magic moment with both hands. Clearly the boys of Eleven Past One are consumate pros because it is washing over them like billeo (whatever that means) and they don't skip a beat. They just jump up and down with pretty ladeez. IT'S A HARD LIFE!
- 10 ~ Eh Eh Eh Oh! Oh the genius of having almost two choruses. There is of course the big ol refrain of Tonight's The Night, but there is also the singalong joy that follows it. Of course the audience are going to sing it back :) Who doesn't love a good chant along at a live show?!
- 11 ~ Wedding Dancing! Everyone is getting their freak on by showcasing their best dance moves that are really only any good when you are drunk at a wedding, trying to cop off with the best man (that might just be me, but to be fair his name was Manning!) and everyone else is too tiddly to care :) There are some ace moves in the final chorus, several of which I have committed to memory for when I next want to frug my stuff like I just don't care :)
- 11 Past One ~ Horse Heads! I mean WTF?! :D
I totally AGREE!!! This is an amazing review and I couldn't have said it better myself.
