Weekend Supplement 2: Scarlet Street ~ Blurred Lines (Robin Thicke cover)

As if it wasn't summery enough with a heatwave of sunny goodness cascading over the British Isles, bottles of Pimms literally (not literally) flying off the shelves of your local Tesco (or if you are struggling to make ends meet this month, Aldi do a passable £7 alternative), a Brit winning Wimbledon (and the world totally forgetting that Virginia Wade did it first in 1977), and aging men still thinking socks and sandals are ok... on top of all this, the lovely purveyors of Barbershop pop, Scarlet Street are back with their reimagining of the Robin Thicke song that has dominated the world so far this season. Fresh from their dazzling cover of Olly's Troublemaker (oh these girls know how to pick hot men to cover - ooo that sounded a bit wrong!), Scarlet Street have taken their ample talents and completely reinvigorated this ubiquitous tune. It sounds fresh and sassy all over again! Of course by now you will know the down & dirty, sexyback vibe of the original - it's now a charmingly coy tale with an deliciously underlying tone of playful flirtatiousness. And category is - kitchen cookery inventive chic realness as the ladies whip up a batch of macaroons in the kitchen and use every utensil available to create their own acoustic version of the tune. Their vocals are as flawless and effervescent as a glass of sparkling champagne - and the visuals are a dreamy hoot as they play around with 50s housewife eleganza, using their baking delights to tease and tantalise! The straight fellas won't know if they are hungry or horny ;) Alongside the inventive reconstruction of the song, the allure here is the personalities of the group which shine through in every second of screen time, every note they sing. And they sure do make Blurred Lines sound like it was lifted from the For The Boys soundtrack. All sorts of amazing :D

(But wait! There's more! As if covering Blurred Lines wasn't enough, they've only blooming well done and done Get Lucky as well! This Daft Punk/Pharrell Williams cover can be viewed here and those first few seconds of harmony alone are worth the admission :) Once again, you may think you know the song but you know nothing until you've seen the artful nuances that the Scarlet Street posse pull out with their exquisite voices. Colour me hooked because I cannot get enough of these gals!)
