Single Suggestion: Dannii Minogue ~ Cos You're Beautiful (& my top 5 fave singles)

Thank the heavens above and gay gods that Dannii Minogue is back. Years after she vacated our (British) screens from her triumphant X Factor gig (the show hasn't been the same since), Dannii has re-established herself as a premiere TV personality in her native Australia, conquered the world of fashion and is now back to remind us what a jolly good popstar she is to boot! Thanks be!! Remember that little clip of a Ruth Lorenzo penned number we heard on Dannii's reality show some years ago? Of course you do - and now it's here in fully realised form as part of a hits package out on 23rd August. This Is It: The Very Best of Dannii Minogue does exactly what it says on the tin - provides a gloriously giddy run through of all Dannii's most sparkling pop moments, including that incandescent duet with her sister Kylie (see my top five fave Dannii singles below for more info on that). Cos You're Beautiful fits effortlessly alongside her evergreen classics - it's a hugely enjoyable slice of solid dance infused pop that shimmies from start to finish. We already know that Ruth Lorenzo can write stunning pop songs (she launched Auryn's career with the brilliant Breathe Into The Light) & teamed up with Dannii seems to bring out the best in both artists. A sumptuous instrumental is underscored by a truly percolating beat and the whole song (including that soaring melody) is held together by a tour-de-force vocal performance from Dannii herself; when that chorus kicks in the song really flies and the optimistic, uplifting lyrics provide some truly euphoric moments. The emphatic background vocal chants of "you are" during the chorus elevate the passion and emotion within the song; added nuances such as the wistful restraint of the middle 8 show only add to these glorious highs. Entirely magnificent and nothing less than what one would expect from such a revered talent. Oh and Lo-hov-ing the fact that the greatest hits collection is jam packed to the brim with the singles versions of the songs. Brillo pants. Pre-order here - and here, for the record, are my top 5 DM singles...
  • 05 ~ Put The Needle On It: This launched Dannii's amazing Neon Nights era, had lyrics that could be interpreted as quite filthy and was a Karen Poole co-write so it had a lot going for it from the get go. It was and is a huge disco inspired song that still sounds contemporary now & will have you bumping and a grinding all the live long night :D
  • 04 ~ He's The Greatest Dancer: Sigh. How utterly perfect is Dannii's rendition of this classic Sister Sledge tune? Once again, it's given a glossy club sheen for the new millenium but Dannii never loses the yearning & admiration the lyrics of the song portray.
  • 03 ~ The Winner Takes It All (Duet with Kylie): All of the music on the Beautiful People soundtrack was beyond reproach. However, this duet with Kylie was a standout moment thanks to it's lush orchestral instrumentation and Steven Anderson/Terry Ronald for sure knowing how to get the very best performance out of the sisters. Timeless, enduring and truly magical...
  • 02 ~ This Is It:Pure exuberant camp and joy exudes from every second of this buoyant Melba Moore cover. Dannii sounds like she's having a riotous good time singing it which ensures the listener is equally involved in the musical party that's occurring. Sometimes you just wanna throw your hands in the air and wave them around like you just don't care. This is the perfect song for that :)
  • 01 ~ Don't Wanna Lose This Groove: Part Dannii, Part Madonna, completely fabulous.
Agree/disagree? Let me know!
