The Scheme - Sick Of You

Take three (ridiculously) good looking lads (with amazing pop star hair), a passion for producing energetic, innovative pop music and an effortlessly engaging performance style and you've pretty much summed up The Scheme. Comprised of Kyle, Billy and Kris, the trio write (or co-write) & play all their own music which is perfectly demonstrated on their current single Sick Of You. It's a furiously addictive, grandiose track about what happens when you tire of the games being played in a relationship and realise that it's time to move on. With an instrumental score that features punctuated strings that give the music a suitably dramatic effect whilst a rousing guitar infused dance beat swirls alongside this, it instantly draws the listener into the song in the most compelling way possible. By making the music equally as effective as the lyrical narrative, every moment of the track feels entirely essential to the emotions and passions that the guys so ably convey. And there is a mesmerising intensity to each of the individual vocal performances that commands your attention and matches the energy of the instrumental to further entwine everything about the composition into one perfectly coalesced production. It actually feels like quite the bold move to have such an emphatic statement of a single when most other boy bands & groups are singing about love & blossoming romance (in a way that ingratiates them with their fanbase). Mcfly, for example, didn't do such an exhilarating style kiss off song until Lies which was well into the fourth album campaign. What this choice of single does is show that the band follow their heart when it comes to releasing music they are passionate about and the song sets them aside from the increasingly crowded marketplace they are vying for a place in. When the music is as vibrant and ardent as Sick Of You is then the group should rightly be confident of their endeavour because, thanks to the errant lover, the listener is the winner at the end of the day. (Add to this a truly dynamic and beautifully shot video and you've got the whole package). Boys, I'm completely on board...
