Fuller - The Days (Avicii ft Robbie Williams cover)
Well this is jolly lovely isn't it? I came across acoustic pop duo Fuller thanks to my new male solo star obsession Nick Gardner (read my review of Lose You here) tweeting one of their members - and then realised I was already familiar with them thanks to their time in boy band The United (see here). Mike and Gabriel have now moved on from that group and joined together to create a unison whose ethos - if the video above is anything to go by - is to craft sweetly strumming acoustic pop with an emphasis on seamless harmonies and a healthy dollop of love for what they are doing. They've done a few covers on their YouTube channel already and while I'm a sucker for anyone who covers one of my top 5 Maroon 5 songs (She Will Be Loved - see here) I've fallen hard for their charming recreation of Avicii ft Robbie William's The Days. Now the original wasn't quite the massive smash it should have been in Mike (and my) native England but was rightly huge in Gabriel's Sweden. The two lads have stripped the song back to it's barest of forms to accentuate the joyous melody that it holds and focus on making that soaring chorus as euphoric as it can possibly be. Their engaging and earnest vocals are imbued with the passion and enthusiasm the lyrics demands whilst a lovely lilting piano underscores the elegantly complementary guitar riffs. There's no doubting that both the chaps have great voices that seem like they will blend perfectly across a number of different genres and when they sing together it adds an additional frisson of energy to the music that's pretty hard to resist. There are a million covers on YouTube of contemporary pop songs but this one is actually deserving of your attention - it's not only transformed the song into a chugging pop-rocker without losing any of it's rhythmic appeal but there's something about the guys performance that keeps you hooked from start to finish. Check them out - I look forward to original material and will be waiting eagerly...
