Sabrina Carpenter - We'll Be The Stars

I'll confess I was a little late to find the music of Sabrina Carpenter (one of the stars of Girl Meets World), mainly falling hard for her delightful Christmas single Silver Nights. I'm all caught up on her debut EP (Can't Blame A Girl For Trying - pop magic, check it out asap) and excited that she's already moving on with new musical endeavours. Her latest single We'll Be The Stars is an utter charmer. It's melodically addictive pop the likes of which former teen stars Debbie Gibson, Mandy Moore and Kelly Clarkson paved the way for in the early stages of their careers - Sabrina takes the torch and upholds the legacy admirably with this effortlessly sing a long number. It's a song about realising the potential within a relationship and believing that it will be epic if you both just persevere (or alternatively just about the power of believing in your generation and what can be achieved. Very Electric Youth). Sabrina sings with a seasoned maturity that is imbued with just a hint of wide eyed wonderment that the lyrics demand, giving the performance a real nuanced feel to it. Initially it's just Sabrina and an elegant piano melody but this soon pleasingly textures and crescendos into a full on percussive groove that highlights just how radiant and sparkling the chorus really is. Will sound great played next to tracks like Heartbeat Song and Blank Space on the radio and is just as worthy of it's place among those modern day classics. It's got me all excited to hear a full length debut album from the talented lass - hopefully that will pop up in 2015. If it's anywhere near the quality of this and Silver Nights, it's going to be a memorable corker.
(Note - go and watch Stardust, the movie. Then play this song over the end credits instead of Take That's Rule The World. Lyrically and musically it works perfectly. Geeky bonus!)
