Bad W0lfy - Love Me Like You Do (Ellie Goulding cover)

Last night I was lying wide awake at 4am pondering the important things in life - firstly, how Simon Curtis could do a 50 Shades of Grey remix of Flesh along with a deliciously man-on-man accompanying video that would be the best thing to happen to 2015. Secondly (and, in the context of this post, most importantly) it idly occurred to me that ace synth-pop sci-fi duo Wrathschild could do an amazing version of the new Ellie Goulding track (from aforementioned 50 Shades of Grey soundtrack) Love Me Like You Do. I quickly checked their twitter account to see what the next chapter of their story holds - and while no news at present, turns out that half of Wrathschild, Bad W0lfy, HAS done her own interpretation of Love Me Like You Do and it is as deliciously satisfying and satiating as anything I could have hoped for. In keeping with how Wrathschild came to me (in my opinion), there's an ethereal and otherworldly quality to the clip - something that's both haunting yet compelling as Bad W0lfy demands and commands your attention with her flawless vocal performance. I don't say that lightly - I've watched and listened to the clip several times and there is so much going on with her voice that transcends her ability to guide the melody so ably. At times she tentative and hesitant, others she has a playful, seductive fierceness which shows that in submission lies the true art of mastery. It's so clever that she's accompanied only by a keyboard that subtly underscores the song yet speaks volumes in that it is reminiscent of a church organ sound, crafting a genius juxtaposition between the song sounding like a hymn yet with exquisitely sensuous lyrics that would certainly make Sunday sermon much more interesting. Poor is the man whose pleasures depend on the permissions of another indeed. I noted the other day that there are a million and one contemporary pop covers on YouTube - but when they are done so very well (as this one is) they make your spirits soar with new insights into music you thought you were already so familiar with. Brava Bad W0lfy. I remain your humble servant :)
