As I paid £3.75 (approximately $5.50!) for my large Starbucks coffee this morning, my favourite new male singer of 2014, MAX, popped onto my mp3 shuffle with his dynamite new single Gibberish. 79 of my British pennies this had cost me when I bought it on iTunes (approximately $1.20) yet it is infinitely more rewarding and enduring than my (admittedly delicious) caffeinated beverage. I instantly felt like I should email a cheque to the talented young singer, giving the real value of his music but decided that sharing my thoughts on his winning new song would hopefully be payment enough. Ever since Mug Shot won my heart around this time last year I've been busy chronicling the music of MAX - his Say MAX EP felt like a mini greatest hits collection with every song deserving of being a world wide smash; his free download song Streets of Gold was equally as enticing a proposition and his out of this world innovative you tube covers had me gasping at his ingenuity. So Gibberish had a lot to live up and I can confirm it absolutely has not let me down. MAX is not one to rest on his laurels and this single is a natural progression of his musical progress to date, without being a replica of what has come before. Lyrically it's about MAX just about reaching his limit with the lies and deception that his girl has been spinning. He effortlessly brings tangible life to his frustrations and limitations at coping any longer with the situation through his soulful impassioned vocals that aren't just him singing, rather a fully formed performance as theatrical as anything you'd find on Broadway. Musically his emotions are suitably underscored by down 'n' dirty funk during the verses with dubstep dropping so hard during the chorus that it literally compels you to find the nearest dancefloor and shake what your mama gave you. Hoodie's contribution during the middle 8 rap is so fast and furious that you are left breathless and exhilarated just trying to take it all in; and also provides the perfect crescendo into one last incessantly addictive run through of that epic refrain. Entirely magnificent - so much so that I insist you run (don't walk) to iTunes and purchase instantly.

(Do be sure to check out the video too - as creative as the song and equally as commanding as his music)...
