I've long been a fan of Mr Asher Monroe. His musical output sees him straddling genre with an effortless ease and innovation that makes diving into his tunes an undeniable delight. While his dual EP releases of On My Way from earlier this year are the gifts that keep on giving (please oh please can Sign Your Love be a single with an equally epic video and salacious dance routine?), he's not shy about sharing what comes next on this magical musical journey. New song Candy Shop was exclusively premiered over on his Facebook page as an acoustic gem that showcased the irrepressible melody of the song alongside Asher's seductive vocal stylings. Not one to shy away from singing the language of love, Candy Shop highlights how Asher allows the music to infuse his entire being which enriches the value of the narrative as well as ensures this is a performance not just a song. There's a marked difference between singing and performing and it's what has elevated the wheat from the chaff on shows like American Idol, The Voice and X-Factor. Asher ably gives life to the metaphor of flirtation, lust and love being like the choices in a candy store and that percolating guitar riff not only sets a peppy pace but provides a down 'n' dirty rhythmic groove that is all too hard to resist. With your hips a swaying and your heart a racing, it's time to dive into the suggestive lyrics that are more stimulating, arousing and titillating than anything you would find in 50 Shades of Grey. Asher portrays this good-boy-makes-you-moan persona that is a fully realised character, almost like a postmodern take on Footloose. Kick off those Sunday shoes indeed. The sparkling wicked glint in his eye fully transmogrifies into a scintillating chorus that has shades of Prince to it yet feels full on Asher Monroe. Even the guitar player (so rude that I don't know his name) finds the liberating glee infectious as he can't keep that smile off his face. And what is buoyant pop music for if not to send your pulse palpitating, your emotions soaring and your inhibitions running for the hills. This song is all those things and more - even in a stripped back setting (or perhaps because of it?) it feels exactly like the type of song you should be hearing on your radio all summer long. The dude can currently do no wrong - you're only hurting yourself by not jumping onboard with Monroe Mania right now. EP-IC.
