Donny Montell - Fly

Confession(s on the dance floor): I don't really know much about ace singer, Donny Montell but here is what I've learned from his jolly fine single Fly...
  • He has a pop star name that rolls off the tongue as lyrically as the phenomenal chorus in the Charlie Mason - Jonas Thander crafted gem;
  • His vocal style is as jubilant and euphoric as the words he so expressively sings - an aural winning lottery ticket for the mind and soul, if you will;
  • The song is a celebration of all things pop - an unabashed party with vibrant melody, exciting musical flourishes and a galloping beat that races along with a zest for life;
  • ...and it is that zest for life in the music that accentuates the narrative. For this isn't just a celebration of pop - it is a celebration of the human spirit; our ability to heal ourselves and others. It should be prescribed by doctors for anyone with the blues.
If that doesn't convince you, just take a listen to the song. It is infused with bold beats, fizzy guitar riffs and piano that dances with the effervescence of a twinkling star. The chorus is a pinata of memorable refrains, all exploding in a glorious release of motivation and glee (surely the musical equivalent of dropping mentos into a coke bottle). Donny doesn't just sing the song - he performs the fizzy pop out of it, the living embodiment of it's message. Take the exhilarating moment at 2m50s when the music is stripped back and Donny's voice leads the rallying call to arms. If you aren't punching your fist to the sky in pure delight you should probably check your pulse and call an ambulance. The only emergency here, however, is how urgently you can press repeat when the song is over. Totally aces.
