Peter Sax - Moments

A new year often puts me in a reflective mood - the bright lights and razzle dazzle of Christmas are past, leaving me to reflect on how to get through the next 300 or so days before the most wonderful time of the year rolls around again. 2016 seemed to be a particularly tough year for losses - both personal and celebrity. Cynics may have rolled their eyes that a global community was constantly mourning people they didn't know, yet the iconic stars who passed were people whose talents and contributions to the world of creativity had shaped us through childhood and beyond. In fifty years time this level of talent may not exist - it will all be people whose life contribution was posting fashion pictures on Instagram. Which brings me to the lovely new single from Peter Sax. Moments beautifully encapsulates every emotion and sentiment we feel those we love or those who inspired us are no longer around. Dedicated to a fan, Jürgen, who lost his battle with illness in 2016, the song carefully balances melancholy with hope, casting light on the shadows that can all too often threaten to consume. It is all about recognising and holding onto memories before they are memories - relishing the time you spend with people as it occurs. "Moments slip away/only in our hearts do they stay" sings Peter with an elegiac resonance. His stirring vocal delivery is set to haunting piano chords, a shimmering percussive groove and, of course, soulful saxophone that seemingly cocoons the whole production in a soothing hug. Peter's earnest singing weaves alongside the music with languorous grace, ensuring the nuanced meaning of the words fly sky high - powered by the elegant melody. If your heart hurts, this is not only the type of song that will help you confront the feelings but also help you heal. Wonderfully done - a timeless classic to accompany you on this adventure we call life.
