Ashe - Used To It

Let the sunshine in. Over the past month, throughout the variable summer weather that us Brits have been subjected to, there has been one constant sparkling glimmer of sun through the gloomy grey clouds. That has been the radiant new single, Used To It, by eloquent, elegant singer-songwriter, Ashe. From the vibrant yellow on the gorgeous cover art, to the old-school radio opening of the song, everything coalesces to be as fresh as a summer breeze on a balmy heated night. The story, however, isn't all lollipops and roses - it is Ashe exploring how to get back to a time when romance and passion fuelled the relationship, rather than recriminations and regrets. She uses her expressive voice to bring out the nuance of the narrative, refusing to be mired in doom and gloom and focusing on how it can still be turned around. She mixes addictive yet off-kilter beats to demonstrate the complexity of emotions - but the skill and magic here is how she weaves it all together to give a sparkling aura of buoyant hope. The score bounces along, urging you to shimmy along with it, whilst Ashe ably guides the melody with her beguiling cadence. You'll be smitten after just one play, and rightly so. Talent will always win over trends and fads. This summer breeze makes me feel fine, blowing through the jasmine of my mind.
