Pre-order Nick's upcoming album, Woodland Echoes (out on August 11th 2017) here (Amazon UK)
It is always a fantastic day when one of your musical idols makes new music that is just as engaging, adventurous and exciting as the music they made when you first fell in love with their songs. Over the weekend, Nick Heyward's glorious new single - Mountaintop - has been released and, quite honestly is the type of song I could (and do) love all day. Mountaintop is taken from his first studio album in twenty years (Woodland Echoes, out in August - see link above) and is a vibrant summer treat that has you floating to pop utopia. An invigorating guitar riff opens the tune with some effusive strumming that immediately pulls you into the world Nick is creating; alongside this is the instantly repeated titular refrain before the first verse kicks in that ensures the melody and singalong nature of the tune is embedded firmly in your brain from the get go. His soaring song is a celebration of love, a celebration of good music and a feelgood anthem that transcends trends and fads that currently clog up the charts. He infuses it with folk and country music influences (love that violin) that are so euphoric that you just want to link arms with the person next to you and fling yourself around the dancefloor with gay abandon. Ultimately, it is Nick's mellifluous, engaging tones that guide you through this exhilarating romp - making it feel like a convivial singalong anthem that will lift your mood and soothe your soul. Take note of the clever lyrics too, particularly the tips of the hats to other uplifting classics that have shaped our experience with good mood music (mountain top/top of the world; dock of the bay, et al). A tantalising intro to his upcoming album - I'm super excited to hear more...
