Color - Tokyo

There are a lot of things to love about the band Color. For starters, their glorious harmonised vocals are filled with such delectable texture that they give me dreamy Wilson Phillips vibe, yet with their own fresh, contemporary twist that makes their songs indelibly Color. Next there is the fact that the cover art to their three singles (Locals, Love Feels and latest release, Tokyo) all add to the story told by the song, a cohesive collection across each digital release that gives the listener something to visually explore. And then, of course, there is the music they lovingly craft. Tokyo is an utterly charming, instantly memorable gem all about following your dreams in life and taking a chance on what might seem impossible. Brilliantly constructed, the verses explore all the fears that plague our thoughts with a mellifluous, reflective vocal set to shimmering chimes, gentle guitar and immersive keyboard chords. It creates a pensive atmosphere for the listener, all of which is designed to accentuate the pondering nature of the words but also set up that explosive chorus so it is even more exhilarating. And what a chorus it is - a layered wall of instruments bursts through, like sunshine through the clouds on an overcast day, with a euphoric vocal delivery that lifts your spirits and sends them soaring. They tap into a universal theme and make it sound glorious - the repeated middle 8 refrain of "what if I imagine all the magic that could happen" is a rallying call to adventure which is all too hard to resist. Many say differences will blight us, but when songs as phenomenal as this exist I say music will unite us. Just amazing.
