Somehow, despite being totally enamoured with America's Most Musical Family (The Melisizwe Brothers) debut single Stadium, I am now playing catch up with not one but two entirely percolating new pop-r'n'b fusions from the most talented siblings this side of Hanson. For those not in the know, the 3 brothers blend beautifully textured vocals with shimmering grooves that are fusion of Motown era boy band & contemporary chart production. First up is Choice, a finger clicking gem all about putting your feelings out there in the pursuit of a little romance. With lyrics as swoonworthy as those harmonies, the lads know how to emphasise each word for maximum effect. Equally as impactful is that beat drop in the first chorus; just makes you want to grab the one you love and shimmy hard. Throw in a rapped middle 8 that I will be spending the next month learning every word to and it is 90s soul heaven for a 2020 world.

I'm Not Your Enemy sees the trio take on the perils of heartache & turmoil in a relationship. A gorgeous quiet storm piano-strings-vocal introduction highlights a nuanced vocal (with layered voices on key words to add emphasis); the score crescendos with the emotion of the melodic narrative in what may be their most theatrical offering to date. A pulsing beat helps build the drama and passion of the singing, whilst a key change sends tingles down your spine. What works really well about the song is that the lyrics can be just as applicable to the divisions in society as they can a fractured friendship or love affair. There's a maturity to the message that transcends age and experience - just a poignant insight delivered in an increasingly dynamic performance.
