They haven't tweeted since 2018. Their name is impossibly hard to google for information. Yet the Nashville collective known as Bien are one of pop music's most sparkling delights. I discovered them last year via their still very good (or tres bien as the French would say) Christmas album, Holiday Cheer. That has come back into heavy rotation for my Holiday Playlist of 2020 and, of course, the ever reliable/intrusive Spotify alerted me to the fact they have a brand new single out. Megaphone is a finger-clicking groove that just keeps on giving the more you listen to it. With effusive lyrics all about embracing your inner self and letting your ideas be heard, this is ebullient joyful pop at its finest. With a pulsing beat, glittering synths and a chorus that simply soars to the heaven, this is sing-along, spirit-boosting music at its finest. The engaging vocals and texture of the score, alongside tasty tips of the hat to the song's influences (Rihanna's Diamonds; Katy Perry's Fireworks), showcase the lyrical and singing prowess of the group whilst leaving the listener on cloud nine (having drifted past seventh heaven some time as you lost yourself in the blissful melee of sound of that final chorus). Gorgeous - now go tell everyone you've ever met about it.
