There is no denying that, outside of Spain, Auryn were one of the most under-rated boy bands of the past decade. They (seemingly) effortlessly produced hit after potential hit with eye-catching accompanying videos and electrifying tours. As happens with all good boy-bands, the lads went their separate ways. For one member in particular, it has been a long pause from the music scene, but Álvaro Gango is finally debuting his solo material. Proving that language and music know no boundaries, his first single, Deshielo (English translation - Thaw), is an effusive, arms in the air rallying cry for us to let go of the things which hold us down and live to our full potential. Such a message feels particularly poignant and relevant given the global pandemic we are all living through - and it is delivered with such an ebullient enthusiasm that it is nigh on impossible not to get swept up in the addictive production. Set to a hand-clap style percussion and infused with vibrant horns, rollicking piano and energetic guitar, Alvaro sings with passion and heart. This makes it feel like he has lived through every word and is sharing his experience to lift others up in their time of need. The chorus is one glorious sing-along treat - lingering long after the song has finished. Welcome back Álvaro - the world of pop has missed you.
