Is it really only a year ago that Spencer released his PWL-80s pop inspired album, Suspense? So much has happened and changed since, yet one thing that remains constant is how the album feels like a greatest hits waiting to happen. Spencer is diving back into his sparkling opus and giving the title track to Sir Ridley to remix. The original album track was a shimmering, seductive groove with lyrics all about how no-one wants a relationship where they aren't sure what is happening. Spencer's plea for coming clean with your emotions has real resonance. He sings with a heartfelt yearning, imbuing each word with a little sparkle that is like a glitter ball exploding alongside that irrepressible percussion. Sir Ridley has clearly earned his knighthood because he deconstructs the original and rebuilds it without losing any of that Spencer magic. Thanks to beguiling synth sounds (that represent the bewildering world of love), and Thriller-esque punctuated beats, he crafts a sumptuous melange of undulating grooves, all anchored by that instantly memorable titular hook. It makes for one spooky yet enticing pop gem to brighten up these winter evenings...
