Quite honestly, Steps have absolutely nailed how to tease the release of their upcoming album What The Future Holds. They have mastered pop edging (!) through carefully chosen singles, enticing teaser tracks, revelation of remixes to keep the singles fresh and thrown in some dazzling dance-move laden videos. Add to this the excitement they generate across the official and individual social media accounts and I'm not sure I can take any more titillation! Luckily, today's advent calendar opening is a sumptuous, heartfelt ballad, Hold My Heart, that immerses you in a world of melancholy musings (reminding me of some of the lush moments on their underrated Light The World opus). It starts with an aching vocal from Claire, with H joining the first verse equally as yearning. Elegiac piano accompanies their voices and when they intertwine, the harmonies are both delectable and heart breaking. There is hope in the chorus refrain and as the song continues, this is buoyed by a gradually layered instrumental and gorgeous performances from Lee, Faye and Lisa. It all culminates into a shimmering yet pensive final chorus and lovely textured voices that make the ending wistful and reflective. Just lovely.
