It has been a pretty odd year, hasn't it? A world has changed around us and it all happens so quickly that we forget we are living through history. One thing my mum always taught me was that in dark times, look for the people who continue to shine a bright light - and this year this has been creative folk. Theatre stars have found new ways to share their craft, whilst singers have embraced the opportunity to bring a little sunshine to people through new music. One such person is Ben Davidson - who, fresh from the success of his debut album, has released some corkers over the past 12 months. His latest single is a cover version of the Lawson song Learn To Love Again. With nuanced production from the ever-reliable DSM, it feels like the composition was just waiting for Ben to perform. With acoustic guitar and a pulsing beat, Ben immerses himself in the lyrics and channels his own experiences to give a heartfelt vocal that is a propulsive as that bombastic percussion. His voice flows effortlessly into a soaring falsetto, demonstrating his expressive range (which also accentuates the emotions of the words). When the chorus explodes in a wall of sound, it is a triumphant declaration that you can't help but sing along to. Textured layering of the backing vocals make this feel like a stadium ready anthem - the type that whips the crowd into a frenzy as they become one with the music.
