Much to my chagrin, I only discovered the delights of Maddie & Tae this week (via their exquisite new holiday EP, We Need Christmas). I was barely done listening to that when Spotify was, in particular, recommending this track from their album The Way It Feels to me - and I was equally as smitten. Write A Book feels like the lyrical companion to their new composition Merry Married Christmas, and is just as charming. The song serves not only as great introduction to the ladies song writing abilities and vocal prowess, but is a solid country-pop jam that should be clogging up radio playlists everywhere. The lyrics are like a romantic take on Salt 'n' Pepa's sassy Whatta Man, with some genuinely clever bon-mots like "there are so many guys across the nation/who could use a lesson in flirtation" and "you could be a bona-fide overnight millionaire/just describing how you run your fingers through my hair". Its so brilliantly visual that the hunky dude they are describing (assume their respective husbands) is more vivid than any dapper chap staring back at you from the harlequin romance section of Borders Books. It is all set to a lavish, finger-click groove with an enormous, instantly catchy chorus that you'll be singing all the live long day after just one listen. I miss songs like this - timeless melodies that become your new favourite future oldie...
