I love it when some of my favourite artists work together - and when they are as iconic as Kylie Minogue and Delta Goodrem, well I may just weep a little with unabashed joy. Both Kylie and Delta have made splendid contributions to Christmas music (this year alone, Delta has her own album out of holiday songs while Kylie co-wrote Saara Aalto's Every Christmas Day) and, as part of Delta's Australia television Christmas special, have teamed up to sing a Disney classic that will last way beyond the season. Navigated by Steve Anderson, he sprinkles a generous dose of fairy dust on their duet version of When You Wish Upon A Star, so that it becomes a contemporary lullaby - instantly timely yet timeless. Just a lilting piano accompaniment and gorgeous solo vocals from both ladies lets the listener immerse themselves in the hope and magic of the lyrics, delivered with radiant wonder. When these two pop legends join their voices in harmony, it is a genuinely spine tingling moment that shares the indomitable spirit of optimism that will let us believe a better tomorrow lies ahead. Just a glittering of graceful strings dance alongside festive chimes, a delicate infusion as intricate and edifying as the first snowfall of the year. Then Ms Goodrem and Ms Minogue leave us with that final intertwining of their voices that is as satisfying as honey melting into hot chocolate. An enchanting diversion from the woes of the world, this is the uplifting gift we should all play as the bells strike 12 to herald in 2021 on December 31st.
